Master Gardener Plant Clinics 2026
Come anytime between 12:00 to 3:00 pm for this walk-in plant clinic. UC Master Gardeners will be available to answer your questions from general information to advice about specific problems. Bring samples of your problem plants in clear plastics bags for better diagnosis. If you suspect insect damage, try to include some of the insects so they can be correctly identified. Registration is not required.

SEMINAR SCHEDULE
Unless otherwise stated, seminars and workshops are hybrid, offered with a small, in-person group and online using Zoom video conferencing. Online attendees will receive an email with a Zoom link the day before the seminar. In-person attendees will also receive a Zoom link in case they cannot attend at the last minute. Please notify SMAS as soon as possible if you are unable to attend in person. Registration is required for both in-person and video conference attendance. The presenter, Frank Niccoli, has been a gardener for over 72 years. He was seven when his grandmother taught him the magic in seeds. He has a degree in horticulture having studied at the Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and at the College of San Mateo and also has a degree in Business Psychology and was an instructor in the Environmental Horticulture Dept at Foothill College. He is the past president of the founding chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association and served on the Board for the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.

Learn about cool, temperate and tropical zone orchids and which are best for your climate. Get to know cool-growing orchids for San Francisco such as Masdevallia, Cymbidiums as well as everyone’s favorite indoor orchid – the Phaelaenopsis. Discover how to successfully re-pot, water and feed orchids, encourage re-blooming, and deal with common pests and diseases.

Lisa Erdos worked in quality for the pharmaceutical industry for 30 years before becoming a Master Gardener in 2009. She enjoys volunteering at the San Francisco Botanical Garden on a “Green Team,” volunteering at Garden for the Environment and helping home gardeners solve plant problems through the Master Gardener Helpline. Growing Masdevallia, Cymbidium, Dendrobium kingianum and Phalaenopsis orchids in San Francisco is a fun hobby and she is continually surprised that they bloom and thrive!

Join us to create the perfect centerpiece for all of your autumnal occasions. We will provide you with a lovely glass and metal pumpkin-shaped open terrarium along with succulents, decorative rocks and other supplies you will need to make a one-of-a-kind terrarium garden that will last indefinitely with regular care.
Zoom participants will be emailed dates and times to pick-up class supplies at SMAS.
In-person class seating is limited to 20 people. Zoom participation is limited to 15 people.

Greg Lum will demonstrate how to design beautiful seasonal arrangements. He will cover essential techniques like choosing the right colors, prepping materials, creating texture and height, and arranging for a long-lasting look. At the end of the program, we’ll hold a free raffle and a few lucky winners will take home an arrangement!
Greg’s passion for floral design has led him to work in a variety of areas of the floral industry. He is a Member of the American Institute of Floral Design (AIFD) for 28yrs and has competed and judged several design competitions. He graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a major in Environmental Horticulture. He also teaches the Art of floral design for the City and County of San Francisco Recreation and Parks / Friends of the Randall Museum at the Randall Museum.
His goal is to incorporate the Art of Magic into the Art of Floral Design. As part of his classes and floral design demonstrations, Greg provides fresh perspectives by combining floral designs with magic and illusions to entertain and amaze people. He has been studying Magic for the past six years, attending various magic shows and conventions to learn what is going on in the Industry. He has performed Magic at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, The Organization of Floral Art Designers and The Floral Artists of the Bay Area.

Use your imagination to create a one-of-a-kind beautiful wreath. We will provide a variety of fresh greens from San Mateo Central Park and all the supplies (frame, ribbon, wire & embellishments) you need to create your wreath. All you need to provide is pruning sheers and gloves. Zoom participants will be emailed dates & times when supplies can be picked up at the San Mateo Arboretum Society.
